Gotta Catch'em All - Oh wait, it's Hogwarts Legacy
The Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay showcase two was released this week on Dec. 14th as a surprise to the community - I was hoping for one, but I had thought for January sometime. However, unlike my last post regarding the first showcase, my thoughts on this are the opposite. It exceeded my expectations of what I wanted them to show and surpassed what I thought we would get in the game.
So let's break it down. In this gameplay, we got mount flying, which included animals and brooms; we had advanced combat (thank goodness), and then the room of requirement, which will henceforth be abbreviated as RoR, as the rest of the community is doing.
My only comments on the mount flying are: I absolutely need to pre-order, and I need to pre-order the deluxe edition. Otherwise, I will face a serious FOMO without the ability to ride a hippogriff or thestral.
Ok, so that moves us on to advanced combat. As my last article noted, I wanted to see more here to better understand the mechanics of the literal and how this will work in the game. So they took us to the dark arts arena and showed us multiple rounds of killing off bad guys, using every unforgivable curse. Not only that, though, they showed us how you can combo and pick up energy bits to use the ancient magic powers (that's the flame icon everyone has been guessing on).
After seeing that, I finally felt like, ok, there is a real game in here beyond, wandering around and just being in awe of the scenery. This was the point in the gameplay that I broke down and said I was pre-ordering.
Lastly, and honestly, the best piece is the RoR. I don't know where to start other than I did not expect a Sim game and a Pokemon game to be inside this already action/adventure game. But, while I didn't expect it, I am so happy about it. We can decorate and grow our RoR, have different vivariums, collect beasts, breed them, and play with them! Again, I am at a loss for words, but beyond excited about this component.
I am currently playing Disney's DreamLight Valley and have seen the community create amazing things for it, so I cannot wait to see
what the community is going to do here.
Overall, the showcase gets a 12/10, and I am happy to sit and wait for the game to be released (really, February cannot get here fast enough).
P.S. I would love to know your theory on the book at the end if you watched the whole gameplay showcase. I am going Horcrux a'la Tom Riddle's diary.
