Disney Dreamlight Valley Multiplayer - Thoughts and Predictions
A couple of weeks ago, Disney Dreamlight Valley (DDLV) dropped a big road map that will likely see us almost all of the way through till the end of the early access form of the game. One of the big highlights was a future feature, Multiplayer.
The multiplayer feature was originally on the community goals. If they got enough people to wishlist the game, then the developers at Gameloft would commit to providing that feature sometime in the future.
One of the things I noticed was that the wording between the two images is different. One says ''Multiplayer Valley Visits,'' and one says ''Multiplayer.'' Honestly, I think there were three different flavors they could have gone with, so I will list those options, which I would have preferred, and which I believe we are actually going to get.
Multiplayer co-op: this is the format where your sibling, parent, friend, partner, etc., could sit on the couch with you and hang out or help you grind some iron. No idea how this version would work, though. No quests or activities are currently designed for two playable characters. Unless they automatically doubled any scores that you got, there is no way for it to work.
Multiplayer, Animal Crossings style: I don't think there is a formal name for this, and it's not quite MMO, but it's also not necessarily someone sitting with you. This would look similar to co-op, but instead, you, as your character, can visit other peoples' “islands” and explore how they are decorated. The benefit of this version is that you could trade the 15 lamps you got from Scrooge for some rare item that your buddy managed to get three of. Again, besides trading and wandering around, I am still not sure exactly what additional gameplay features would be in this version unless they surprise us with something totally new.
MMO: This is, of course, totally unlikely to happen, but I do think it would be awesome if you could play with anyone online and either hang out with them or go do quests. Since there isn't anything to survive from or fight, it's probably not the right setting, but if they really wanted to amp up the quests plots, then this could work. Again, this is likely not going to happen.
Ok, so what do I think will happen? I think we will get option 2 based on the original wording of multiplayer; however, with the newer wording, I worry that we will get option 1. Option 1, to me, feels like it will be a letdown because if you don't have anyone to play with, this becomes a useless feature. I will be happy with option 2, so long as they figure out a better way to visit villages than how ACNH did it. What I didn’t like about ACHN was that to go an island, you had to contact people on a channel to get their code and then the players had to be home and in the game when I wanted to go see their village. Honestly, though, some crazy MMO-amped version of this game would be completely awesome, but that is not where this is going, so I will have to live.
Here is to seeing what the future holds, and keep a lookout for more posts on crazy things I wish DDLV did.
